JULI RASURE

Jim Waltrop

COMING SOON

Hi, I’m Juli! I’ve been a professional dog trainer for the past nine years and have had the privilege of training more than 60 service dogs for veterans, first responders, and community facilities. Along the way, I built a wonderful network of puppy raisers and foster families who help support our training program.

Dogs have always been a part of my life, and about 20 years ago I began volunteering with rescue organizations across the country. Through that work, I discovered my passion for training dogs with a purpose. My journey started with my Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Hotch, who became a therapy dog visiting nursing homes.

To further my education, I attended Starmark Academy in Texas and This Able Veteran in Illinois. Since then, I’ve continued learning through courses focused on canine behavior, psychology, and obedience training.

Today, I live in Fredericksburg, Virginia, with my two sidekicks, Pete and Lyndon, who are both therapy and service dogs. When I’m not working with dogs, I enjoy traveling, spending time outdoors, reading, crafting, and making memories with my two grown children, who make me proud every day.

I have worked with my own pets and those of family members for much of my life, helping them build strong house manners and dependable obedience skills. I have worked with different breeds of dogs including Golden Retrievers, Labradors, German Shepherds, and Siberian Huskies along with some mixed breeds and shelter dogs, training them to adjust to life as family companions.

After a successful career in nursing, and the passing of our beloved German Shepherd, Ziva, I decided to fully pursue the lingering desire of raising and training Service Dogs, Therapy Dogs, and Facility Dogs. I wanted to continue to help others and I believe dogs are happiest when they have a purpose.  I found that I could help dogs grow into roles where they can truly make a difference for Veterans, First Responders, and others in need.

While working with other organizations, I have helped raise and train more than 20 dogs who have gone on to impact the lives of the people they serve. My experience includes every stage of development, from raising and socializing puppies as young as 8–9 weeks old to obedience training, leash training, socialization, and structured exposure situations preparing dogs for advanced training and their future working roles. I have helped dogs work through challenges like stranger reactivity, door manners, and separation anxiety.

In addition to puppy raising and obedience, I am an active part of our Therapy Dog program, utilizing Animal-Oriented Therapy while visiting care facilities, first responder organizations, schools and businesses. Through these visits, I can help bring comfort, connection, and a sense of calm while strengthening the bond between people and animals in the community.
